What happened at the summit?

The Lower Clarence Magpie Rugby League Club (NRRRL) hosted a  summit in Yamba on the 18th February 2017 to have a conversation with other clubs about the state of their game.

The SUMMIT was sponsored by NSW Sport & Recreation and supported by MP Chris Gulaptis, the CRL, NSW RL, Northern Regional Rugby League (NRRRL) and our two other Clarence River clubs, the Grafton Ghosts and South Grafton Rebels.

The summit ambassador was former NRL and International rugby league coach Brian Smith while the summit convenor was Clarence Valley community advocate, Debrah Novak.

Keynote speakers were 2016 Young Australians of the Year Lucas Patchett (Orange Sky Laundry).

Summit facilitator was Moira McDade from 'The Generation Business'.

Five layers of rugby league admin attended the summit along with a number of clubs and community members and stakeholders.

Many NSW bush clubs have gone into recess over the past few years while others continue to struggle to find either players or finances to run their sport.

The aim of the summit was to create an opportunity for bush clubs to come face to face to discuss and find common ground to enable their sport to be fit for the future.

Prior to the summit we are asked everyone associated with grassroots rugby league to fill out our survey form so we had something to work with on the day.

We have now collated all the information and ideas so this data will form the foundation documents for a bigger discussion about the future of grassroots rugby league in NSW.
